October 19, 1966: GRUDGE, GRUDGE, GRUDGE!- Handsome Johnny Barend vs The Missing LinkPhotos courtesy of George Beppu. |
On October 19, 1966, promoter Ed Francis presented a wrestling card at the Honolulu International Center Arena which featured a grudge match between Handsome Johnny Barend and The Missing Link. Unfortunately, while we have several photographs of the undercards, we do not have any pictures from the two main events, the grudge match and the World's Tag Team Championship match. The results of the main events were as follows: Ray Stevens and Patt Patterson successfully defended their Wold Tag Team Championship by defeating Pepper Gomez and Victor Rivera before a turn away crowd of more than 8,000 people. Patterson scored the first fall by pinning Gomez but Gomez returned to down Stevens in the second fall. In the third fall, Stevens used a Bombs Away and a press to down Victor Rivera. The Missing Link defeated Handsome Johnny Barend when Barend was counted out as he lay outside the ring. In another match, Kongozan and the Mighty Atlas wrestled to a draw. Dan Miller vs The Stomper The Mongolian Stomper defeated Dan Miller in a one fall match. The Stomper has Dan Miller in an arm bar. Karl Gotch and Billy White Wolf vs Beauregard and Tarzan Taylor Beauregard and Tarzan Taylor filled in for The Masked Vigilantes, who could not make it. The match ended in a draw.
